MetamorphosisThe Metamorphosis series was catalysed by the myth of Apollo and Daphne. I have adapted the central idea of transformation to inform a visual language that explores and expresses my relationship to the natural world. The idea and process, in turn, constitute a metaphor for the unease and contradictions felt within my own body. By emphasising the fluid and transparent properties of oil paint and the interplay of colour and composition I have endeavoured to unseat the static, two dimensional condition of painting in order to evoke a transient, spacious, and constantly transforming reality. In so doing, I invite the viewer (in a reverse metamorphosis) to transcend the forms defined by a world of concrete and brick and to connect with their natural origins. |
